            Private John J. Pulliam of Captain R. K. Smith’s Company, (E,) of the 9th Va. Regiment of Confederate States Calvary, was enlisted by Capt. Corbin Crutchfield of the 9th Regiment of Va. Calvary at Camp Boulware - King & Queen county on the 12th day of January 1862; to serve 3 years; he was born in Spotsylvania Co. In the State of Virginia, is Twenty two years of age, 6 feet, – inches high, Light complexion, Blue eyes, Light hair, and by occupation when enlisted a Farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 days.

            Station: Belfield

            I certify that I have carefully examined the said Pvt. J. J. Pulliam of Captain Smith’s Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of Surditas - His hearing at all times defective, is, on the slightest exposure completely lost. I therefore recommend that he be discharged–

            DISCHARGED this 31st day of January, 1865, at Bellefield Va.
